Goggins had some really good insights today...win the game of seconds. He explains the same concept that was explained in 7 Habits of Highly Effective people. There is a gap between stimulus and response. If you can pause and decide rather than reacting, you can improve your life, communication, and relationships. Goggins describes it as the one second rule. When you are redlining emotionally, physically, or mentally you need to take a knee to assess the situation and calm yourself or refocus. It is in that pause or take a knee that you can prevent fight or flight. A quick moment to think before you speak or act. Boy this lesson would have come in handy a million times. I was thinking that alcohol with its ability to drop inhibitions destroys this pause. We just say and do whatever comes to mind. It might be good in some situations but mostly not.
I am stuck reading 50 Modern Lives. Don't get me wrong, I love the stories, but it is long and I would rather be reading something more in line with the self-improvement theme. What I am realizing at this point is that I can read more pages, run more miles, lift for longer, and drink more water than the requirement. What else do I have to do? Clean the house? Find a job? Nah. That can wait.
Today day 31 I woke up tired but then felt a surge of energy. I decided to run slow and just hit the road. It was a beautiful morning run. 5 miles Loon loop and 1 mile cool down. It is funny because I am acting like a 5 mile run is equivalent to a speed workout or long run. Well it is time to get back into long runs and then a walk later.
3x week run longer in the morning without the dogs! Maybe bring Shadow for a few miles and then do a few on my own. start getting 6-8 mile long runs. With afternoon walks plus stretching or plyos or something.
3 x week
June 25 Gunstock 50k
July 9 Loon Mt. Race
September Black Bear Trail run 13.1
What does it take to prepare for a 50k? boy that is only 7 weeks away. I could do it. But I know nothing about this type of thing.
