Today the video talked a lot about self-talk and beliefs. I kept thinking about Dad's letters to Grandma and Grandpa while he was in rehab at the Anchorage for the first time in 1976 at the age of 32. He wrote that his mind had not been right for 14 years meaning since his first drink of alcohol. Unfortunately, this rehab did not stick, and it took him about 8 more years to get sober for good. At that point, he humbled himself and asked Dave if he could have a break from paying child support so he could go back to school. He did and he graduated with his master's when I graduated from Highschool. He had 20 more alcohol free years where he excelled at school, work, and life. The final years were a little rough as his liver disease took hold of his pysical and mental health. Those letters are so true for me too. I look back on the past 4 years really where I just isolated with alcohol avoiding the tough stuff and creating more obstacles for myself, and my family. It is ugly to look at the mess with clear eyes. Part of me wants to hide from the realization of what I have done.
The notes I took from the video were about vulnerability and tenderness leading to whole heartedness. I have to turn everything from these courses into scriptural references because the entire new age, self-help movement is all stolen from the Bible with variances. The biggest difference is that the Bible points us toward our need for a savior. We can't do it alone. A hard heart thinks they can. I have been that person (too frequent). I never learned tenderness and vulnerability. I learned suck it up, pick yourself up and move on. I thought this was biblical because it took a bit of faith to walk away or get up or stay. The difference is in the humbling of my heart and ways. Searching my heart to find the sins that are causing the division. Professor Toto posted about the Jezebel and the Saintly woman. I understand the Jezebel's conniving ways, but in our warped world of feminism it is easy to have one foot in each camp unknowingly.
Back to Whole Hearted living...Psalm 103:1-2 says with my whole heart, with my whole life, and with my innermost being, I bow in wonder and love before you, the holy God. Biblically, humility looks a lot like vulnerability. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10-Jesus said, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Paul understood when he is weak, then he is strong for the sake of Christ. See more below.
